\nIn order to have a good Wi-Fi range throughout your home, your router should be located at the most central place as possible. Ideally away from walls and items that reflect the signal (metallic surfaces, mirrors, etc), but also at a certain height (e.g. on a piece of furniture).<\/p>\n
Good air circulation around the router is of major importance to the health of your router. If overheated, it will perform worse, and it will ruin faster. Your router must not be covered by objects such as cloths or bags, but should be able to “breathe” freely.<\/p>\n
Most modern routers come with a pre-installed password for connecting Wi-Fi devices.
\nYou must, however, make sure that the security protocol used by your router is “WPA2”. Otherwise, your password may be vulnerable.<\/p>\n

Your router has 13 or 14 frequencies (channels) that emit the Wi-Fi signal. In other routers, you can simply set a limit to its Wi-Fi speed, to benefit devices connected via Ethernet. Another way to improve your router, is to upgrade its firmware.<\/p>\n
Firmware upgrading is done either through a file provided by the manufacturer on its internet page, or through your router settings.
\nCaution: Before upgrading the router’s firmware, read the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. If the upgrade is interrupted (in case of a power-cut for instance) your router may stop functioning and chances are, the warranty will not cover you.
